Timeshare / Vacation Ownership: 2 years, 7 months ago Am I right in saying that this website is directed more towards USA and the UK? I would be very interested in hearing the experiences of people from Australia with the types of timeshare I have just purchased, (The holiday Club Pacific) I am having a difficult time understanding how things work and how to get the best of my memebership.

A group that can help you is called ATHOC – the Australian Timeshare Holiday Ownership Council based on the Gold Coast in Queensland. Their website is http://www.athoc.com.au and they are the national trade association for the timeshare industry in Australia. They also help answer consumer questions regarding timeshare, so I’d suggest you give them a call on 07 5574 2622 as they are a great group of people.
Thanks Steve.
Angela I have been a timeshare owner now for about 17 years and have only really started to be able to utilise it to its full capacity. I gave my BIL a holiday in north qld he hadn’t had a holidya in 20 years! I gave my daughter a week in Tassie for their honeymoon. I have provided nearly every member a week at sometime or other. I use mine evry 2 years on average. I currently have a week to se up by December 2010. I have met a number of owners who use them as bonuses for staff or family. I am a member of both DAE and Classic but there are others its just that these 2 are free. Ok I am probably rambling so good luck and happy holidays! Tony
Hi Tony, thanks for your reply,I am pleased you have managed to make the most of your timeshare, my husband and I were on holiday in Queensland in August when we signed up for the Holiday Club, so far wwe have managed to book a bonus week which cost us $285.00 on top of the $16,000.00 it has cost us for the timeshare. I guess we are having some difficulty getting the holiday we want when we want without having to pay more money. Everytime we see a flight special somewhere is Australia, we contact the club to see what is available, so far all we have been given are some very old properties with bad reviews from others or really nice properties that are new but cost more points than we have, in short we are becoming a little dishartned by it all. I thought about trying to plan ahead and ask for availability for a motor home but was told can’t do that until less than 60 days before you want it, (if available) so yet again no luck. If you or any of your friends are aware of any ”tricks of the trade” that you could pass on we would appreciate it.
Cheers and also happy holidays
Angela
