Much of the buzz in the industry centers on the potential creation of short-term products with a limited timeframe, such as a 5-year ownership product with the possibility for owner renewal. Do you think it is a good idea for timeshare companies to roll out products such as this?

Yes it gives us more choice and if the price is right then it has to be an interesting option. It will certainly save owners being stuck with Timeshare they no longer want and can’t get rid of.

It’s certainly an option that is becoming more and more popular Steve. But the market is becoming saturated by many unscrupulous companies which use this product for to make a fast buck and don’t care about the customer.

I would be more in favour of Companies becoming more accountable for providing ALL the information relating to the “timeshare” (regardless of the term)product, including allowing new owners more time to peruse the product that is being offered before the commitment. I guess this relates more to the Club type of timeshare that I have just joined. I signed up after spending over 4 hours in a presentation where he information was imbelished to a huge degree, then was not permitted any access to the websites until a month after signing, this of course means that your cooling off period has lapsed and no way out, knowing that the money you have spent will possibly never be returned.

Yes there is far too much high pressure selling in the Timeshare market it is really putting people off. It might eventually ruin the market.

I agree, if it were not for the kind people I have had discussions with on this site I may well have thrown myself of the bridge of massive regret by now, will give it a bit more time see how we go, unfortunately they (the timeshare company) got me at a very weak moment while on holiday (as they do with most I suspect) and financially not the greatest decision of my life. Cest la vie!!

Hi Angela Yes I think that is the same for most of us. I have a number which I have to rent out. This means you can avoid the exessive transfer charges of the Exchange Companies.

    Hi Angela
Well it is good to see you are making your first bookings etc. As previously dscussed you can beat yourself up about what we did in the past OR make the most of it and I am glad to see you are trying to do that. I feel that once you have experienced a couple of holidays you start to become more travel savvy and how you can take advantage of the differing aspects of timeshare. I realise yours is different to mine BUT the principal idea is similar. I have grandchildren in Townsville and last year I used a week at Magnetic island to take them over there for a holiday, I think I told you I gave my daughter a week in Tassie for their honeymoon and so on so there are some advantages. I currently have a saved week due to expire and I am working frantically to find a week I can go away but I may have to settle if I can’t get the one I want. Its all about planning. Have a great time on your next holiday and I hope you and your husband enjoy the March one as well. All the best
    .
    Tony

I started with a trial membership, which I suppose is a kind of short term option as if I hadn’t upgraded it would have expired after the first few years. If timeshares could be bought in 5 or 10 year periods it would give owners a chance to buy at perhaps different locations as their life cycle and travel preferences change.
