A great forum – thanks. We just bought a new week in Cancun at Villa del Palmar.
The mid construction prices were great and we got some additional benefits too.
Our experience of fractional ownership isn’t vast. We had a couple of weeks, one with Geo and one at London Bridge resort in Lake Havasu, AZ.
The Geo experience wasn’t great for us. Many of the resorts might best be described as tired. We recently came back from one in Playa del Carmen, (Wyndham Azteca). The food was excellent (try the on site Italian -we really liked that.)
The rooms were clean but they are in serious need of some paint, upgraded plumbing fixtures and general TLC.
Trying to sell Geo points is a nightmare! Geo constantly sends out information cautioning owners not to use any of the available timeshare sales companies, suggesting they’re all a bunch of crooks! That may of course be true but they don’t suggest any alternatives or provide any help to members who need to sell.
Luckily, we were able to trade that week when we bought our new one at Cancun.
Fractional ownership is great for us as we prepare to retire in a year or so, especially as we’ve now bought in to one of the higher end units.
As with most things you get what you pay for. Our suggestion to would be buyers: Buy the best unit you can possibly afford and you won’t be disappointed.
