Alex Zozaya, who is the president and founder of AMResorts, concentrates his efforts on investor and owner relations, design and development of the next generation of luxury leisure resorts and leading a professional and dedicated staff of more than 5,000 employees throughout the United States, Mexico and the Caribbean.
The creation of UVC is a recent move, in part as a reaction to market conditions. “To be honest, we were losing customers to timeshare companies – some of our competitors that were doing this before we were,” Zozaya explains. “They knew that our customers were perfectly qualified and had great potential for acquiring this type of product.” Zozaya says his company was motivated to create UVC when they realized out how many AMResorts guests were attending other companies’ sales presentations – “and how many of them were actually buying at somebody else’s property.”
But Zozaya notes that there were other influencing factors as well. “There was a trend in the market where everybody was buying full-time ownership of vacation homes as second, third and even fourth residences through mortgages,” he notes. “With the collapse of the real estate industry at the end of 2007 and the first half of 2008, the consumer held off on buying full-time ownership, and even fractional sale slowed down. We decided that that was the right moment because the consumer was going to come back and continue to buy something that was less expensive and that didn’t require a loan or credit or a mortgage.”
AMResorts launched UVC in October 2010. “It’s very new – we haven’t launched at all the locations yet,” Zozaya says. “We currently have 26 hotels, but we’re going to open 7 more, so it will be 31 soon.”
