Adventure And Myth Meet At Forest Holidays’ Newest Cabin Site In Sherwood Forest

February 21, 2012

Forest Holidays, the UK’s favourite natural getaway, is to open in Sherwood Forest on February 27th.

Nestled amongst the 3,300 acres of Sherwood Pines Forest Park – Nottinghamshire’s most legendary spot – the brand new Forest Holidays site promises to be the perfect setting for year round short breaks and longer holidays.

This will be the seventh site to date for the environmentally friendly company, which offers luxury Cabin stays set on Forestry Commission land throughout Britain. Gary Fletcher, CEO of Forest Holidays said,

“The Cabins are designed with the environment in mind and offer incredible views of the forest, stylish interiors and many come with a private outdoor hot tub. Indoors, many Cabins also have log burners and all Cabins are provided with flatscreen TVs and state-of-the-art AV systems with internet access. Golden Oak Cabins even come equipped with Wii games consoles to keep the whole family entertained. What’s more, guests can enjoy the great outdoors, taking unique nature trips with our Forest Rangers – including the popular night vision walk – or can even try their hand at on-site archery, Robin Hood style, under expert guidance. Sherwood Forest is also perfect for outdoor exploring, with miles of trails for cycling and walking.”

The leading architectural firm Holder Mathias was commissioned in 2007 by Forest Holidays to develop a new generation of holiday cabins to be rolled out over ten years. They have designed the Sherwood Cabins with the environment in mind; including low-cost heating systems, gutters that allow water to flow back into the forest and low impact piling to reduce the effect on tree roots and other existing infrastructure below ground. Peter Gamble, managing director of Holder Mathias, explained,

“Sensitively placed within the woodland, each Cabin lightly touches the forest floor, nestling into the trees, and inviting you to claim your own piece of nature for a few days. The Cabins’ open, soaring spaces and full height glazing embrace the forest, creating a real woodland experience which is comfortable and warm through thoughtful, sustainable design. The design approach is all about creating a memorable guest experience in harmony with a unique woodland environment.”

Also new for 2012: A voluntary £2.50 donation to the Forest Holidays Trust when you book your break, online or over the phone, allows Forest Holidays to plant a tree on your behalf, through the Woodland Trust – creating new woodland in the UK for future generations. You can, of course, donate to plant more than one tree!

There are 65 Sherwood Cabins in total, and they come in three styles:
