Discovering Paper: How A Sheet Of Paper Is Created In Italy

February 2, 2012

Loving hands, natural materials, creativity.
To discover and safeguard some of the traditions that are slowly disappearing and are part of the most important Italian cultural heritages, for a different kind of vacation or to learn a new skill, enrich your stay in Italy with one of our antique crafts courses.

Villa Censi Mancia proposes the following Course

Discovering Paper: How a sheet of paper is created

Experience the magic of an ancient art and discover literally at first hand a fascinating part of the history of man’s civilization by learning how to make paper. The aim of the course is to popularize the trade of “papermaker” and educate the students about the history and techniques involved in hand-made papermaking. This art was developed in Italy, right here in Fabriano, thus giving to everyone access to culture. You will witness and experience all the different phases of the creation of a paper sheet, exactly in the same way as it was made in the 1200′s by our traditional papermakers. You will discover all the secrets which those craftsmen jelously guarded, experiencing an art which still today retains all the magic of a past age. You will enjoy a uniquely creative and formative experience, which could lead you to further possibilities to achieve more advanced results: with the addition of specific techniques you will be able to create not only simple sheets of handmade paper but real and actual art forms.
