World Class Rugby at the Hong Kong Sevens 2012

Support your favourite Rugby Team at this year’s electrifying Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Sevens taking place on the 23rd – 25th March at the Hong Kong Stadium. Celebrate world class rugby and party fanfare that have made this one of the worlds most celebrated and exciting sporting events.

24 of the world’s top rugby teams will be playing at this year’s event. From its humble beginnings in 1976, the Hong Kong event has become an internationally recognised phenomenon that attracts teams from the world’s top rugby nations who compete for four different trophies. Fans from all over the globe attend, with 120,000 fans going through the stadium gates during the three days to cheer on their favourite team. After the action on the pitch, spectators can continue the carnival atmosphere and head to Hong Kong’s array of bars and clubs.

Hong Kong will roll out the red carpet again for the Hong Kong Sevens teams and supporters in March 2012. For three action-packed days, Asia’s world city is going to rock and roll all day and all night as the world’s top Seven’s teams battle it out to be the champions of 2012.

5th Feb – Hong Kong Marathon 2012

Hong Kong’s largest outdoor sporting event and one of the largest marathons in Asia, this event attracts some of the top runners from around the globe every year. This event involves a full marathon, a half marathon and a 10km run on courses that take runners past some of the city’s most stunning scenery.

The half Marathon and full Marathon races start at Nathan Road, the 10km race starts on Island East Corridor and the 3km Wheelchair race starts on Wan Chai Sports Ground and all races finish at Victoria Park.

This year’s enrolment quota has been increased to 70,000 runners with the record-high prize money of US$227,000. Two new categories, a Full Marathon Wheelchair Race and a special 3km Wheelchair Race, will also be included for the first time in the event. Go and cheer on this year runners along the route and experience this amazing sporting event.

Dragons Back – The Dragon’s back trail provides stunning views of Shek O, Tai Long Wan, Stanley, Tai Tam, and the South China Sea.

Rating – Easy Distance – 8.5 km Average hiking time – Approx 5 hours

Peak Circus Walk – This is a leisurely and leafy walk that offers spectacular views of the city.

Rating – Easy Distance – 3.5 km Average hiking times – Approx 1.5 hours

Tung Chung to Tai O – An ancient trail on Lantau Island, which was once an important path for villagers to commute between Tung Chung and Tai O.

Rating – Fairy difficult Distance – 15 km Average hiking times – Approx 6 hours

21st March – 5 April – 36th – Hong Kong International Film Festival

The Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF) is one of Asia’s most reputable film festivals. Screening over 330 outstanding films from more than 50 countries, the event reaches an audience of over 600,000.

This year’s film festival will be celebrating the career of the internationally recognised Hong Kong filmmaker Peter Ho-Sun Chan and will be showcasing 12 of his films, including Alan & Eric: Between Hello and Goodbye (1991), Tom, Dick & Hairy (1993), He’s A Woman, She’s A Man (1994), Comrades, Almost A Love Story (1996), Three: Going Home (2002), Perhaps Love (2005), The Warlords (2007) and Bodyguards and Assassins (2009). A “Face to Face” seminar with Hong Kong filmmaker Peter Ho-Sun Chan will be presented by the Jockey Club Cine Academy on the 3rd April, where he will share his insights into films, art and life.
