The Dutch Caribbean island of Bonaire offers something for everyone–divers, snorkelers, adventurers, families and even single sun-seekers. Helping to make vacationing in Bonaire easy, relaxing and fun, here is some of the latest news from the Island.

Filling a definite need for visiting tourists or those who own vacation homes, the new Bonaire Personal Shopper is ready to help and assist with any shopping needs on Bonaire, including food and beverages, gifts, or other items.Operated by Renee Leach, the new service will make it easier for arriving tourists to find a fully stocked refrigerator or pantry upon their arrival, thus saving them precious vacation time as they won’t have to shop for necessities. Owners of vacation homes may also take advantage of this new service so they may come “home” to a cool drink, a quick sandwich, or have supplies for a first night’s dinner at home. The new web site offers tips about what to expect from the stores on Bonaire in regards to brand names, as well as a shopping list of necessities. The weather station is state-of-the-art equipment, and it’s located in Belnem, just south of the Flamingo International Airport. With the new weather station coming on-line, there are now new data points for the following categories, with updates each minute: Temperature, Humidity, Wind Speed (mph), Wind Direction, Wind Chill, Barometer, Total Rain for the current year, Current Solar Radiation, and UV Index (for those who sunburn easily). Bonaire Wellness Connexions now offers a new Bonaire Goat Cheese Farm Bicycle Tour, available every Wednesday. Specifically designed for nature and cycling lovers, this unique bicycle tour provides the opportunity to see the wonders of Bonaire from a bicycle, viewing amazing vistas and local farms. The highlight of the excursion will be a visit to Aletta’s goat cheese farm, with a taste of their distinctive goat cheese. The whole trip takes approximately 4 hours. You will leisurely follow the guide and there will be intermittent stops along the way to learn about Bonaire’s flora, fauna, and natural history and capitalize on photographic opportunities. Bonaire Windsurf Place reports the arrival of a special delivery of Roberto Ricci (RRD) twin fin boards for Bonaire Windsurf Place. These new twin fin Fire-ride boards have been specially built to meet the specific needs for windsurfing in Lac-Bay. As the bay consists of two areas–a deep area and a waist-deep area, these boards have been designed in a twin fin configuration, so that windsurfers can use the smaller fins and still keep their handling, instead of one larger fin. Cadushy of Bonaire Liqueur is made with all natural ingredients. This liqueur is based on the combination of many traditions of Bonaire, and was introduced on September 6, 2009, Bonaire Day. Dive Friends Bonaire is pleased to announce their next Instructor Development Course (IDC) will begin on June 7th and continue through June 15th, 2010 for those looking to become a professional diver with teaching capabilities. The Instructor Exam conducted by PADI will immediately follow on June 16th and 17th. Dive Friends will be offering the new E-Learning option for this IDC, which allows candidates to save time and travel expenses by taking advantage of home-study methods. They then may report to the IDC on the third day (June 9th, 2010), for completion of the program with Dive Friend’s course director. Once all candidates are on Bonaire and in sessions together, the new IDC format will focus upon workshops and interaction, while utilizing the new PADI Guide to Teaching. The Massage Hut Bonaire, in conjunction with A Place for You, is now creating and selling natural sea salt products from Bonaire. Sea salt, also called Maris Lumis or Maris Sal, from Bonaire is known for its cleansing, detoxifying, and healing qualities, as it contains nearly 100 different minerals and other healing substances, including potassium, magnesium, and bromide. The Spa at Habitat has recently opened for business and has launched a brand new web site offering a 10% discount on appointments made in advance. The Spa at Habitat offers a full line of individual or couples massages by the sea, along with a large menu of nail care services or body treatments. Run by Omaira Nicolaas and Alda Dirksz, this new addition will prove to be popular with guests staying in the northern hotels or even those in private villas in Sabadeco. Delectable Dining:
Many restaurants offer gift certificates, but Cactus Blue Bar and Restaurant is now offering an on-line gift certificate program. Casablanca Restaurant is now offering a new Quick Lunch service, each Monday through Friday. The menu will vary daily and weekly and portions are available in either small or large. The Carillo Family at Eddy’s at Sand Dollar is now offering a new supper menu, poolside at Sand Dollar Condominium Resort. Chef Eddy has introduced an assortment of dishes with an ethnic style and unusual combinations, such as the “Choppy Choppy Bite Bite”, a stack of ribs “Eddy Style” marinated with his secret recipe sauce. The Palacios Family, well known for their two restaurants, Patagonia Argentinean Restaurant and Buenos Aires Cafe, have added a new Martini Bar to celebrate their third anniversary at Patagonia. Bruce Bowker’s Carib Inn reports a complete makeover with a new paint scheme for all buildings, new landscaping, and a beautiful wall mural painted by the art class from one of Bonaire’s local schools. Buddy Dive Resort is proudly hosting the second annual Buddy Dive Freediving Event Bonaire. Last year Karol Meyer broke the South American record on Bonaire by reaching a depth of 93 meters/305 feet, with the help of her coach and friend, Patrick Musimu. This past May, Buddy Dive welcomed Karol and Patrick back again as their guests to attempt new world records, including the Tandem No Limit Category. They beat the prior record, reaching 121 meters/397 feet. Eager to share their passion for freediving with others, Karol and Patrick will give presentations and a freediving clinic.

Buddy Dive also recently took delivery of a new dive boat, a new motor catamaran with enough room for up to 24 divers on a three-tank dive. It’s equipped with everything on board that a diver needs, such as rinse buckets, a camera table, a sun-deck, a shaded area, and an entry platform for both easy entries and exits. After or in-between dives, one can enjoy the sun and stunning views from a comfortable seat on the flying bridge. Dive Flamingo Beach Resort & Casino has announced a variety of upgrades to their property.
